Study with Us

The Department of Economics is committed to training students rational analytical skills, inspiring them to think about key economic issues, and enhancing their capacity for independent analysis of economic behaviour. We offer three undergraduate programs and four postgraduate programs, complemented by cutting-edge computer facilities and career support services, which provide students with learning support and professional employment guidance.

Discover Our Research

With exceptional research capabilities, our faculty consistently publishes papers in the top five academic journals in economics, delving deeply into the core issues of the Chinese economy. These research outcomes have enhanced the international scholarly community’s understanding of the Chinese economy and have also underscored the prominent reputation of CUHK’s Department of Economics. Additionally, we are renowned in the research of economic theory and labour economics.

The Department of Economics has established joint research centres with prestigious international institutions, including Fudan University, Tsinghua University, the University of California, San Diego, and Zhejiang University. These centres focus on the Chinese economy, the digital economy, and international finance. We also organise annual international conferences, inviting economists, practitioners, policy researchers, interdisciplinary scholars, and relevant stakeholders worldwide to share their research findings and insights.
