Winners of Excellent Undergraduate Paper Awards 2024-25

To foster students’ interest in economics theory and issues, the Department has been awarding up to seven Excellent Undergraduate Paper Awards, four in the Senior Division, and three in the Junior Division, each year.

We received quite many paper nominations this year, and we are thankful to have our faculty members joining the panel to select the awardees –

  • Dr James MARTIN
  • Dr Wai-chiu WOO

The best paper in microeconomics is bestowed the Best Micro Award, and the best paper in macroeconomics is bestowed the Best Macro Award. We are pleased to announce that the award recipients for 2024-25 are:

 

  1. Chak Shing LAM won the Excellent Undergraduate Paper Award – Best Micro Award (Senior Division) with the research paper, “The influence of COVID-19 outbreak on life satisfaction in the United States: Evidence from PSID” (Supervisor: Dr Wallace MOK)
  2. KeQing ZHU won the Excellent Undergraduate Paper Award – Best Macro Award (Senior Division) with the research paper, “Longevity, Growth, and Pension Sustainability: Analyzing Retirement and Fiscal Policy Responses” (Supervisor: Prof. Julan DU)
  3. Yurong ZHANG won the Excellent Undergraduate Paper Award (Senior Division) with the research paper, “The Impact of Fertility Policies on Economic Growth — By analyzing the impact of the length of maternity, paternity and parental leave in Chinese provinces” (Supervisor: Prof. Julan DU)
  4. Xinyao LIN won the Excellent Undergraduate Paper Award (Senior Division) with the research paper, “Avoiding the Heat? Exploring the Relationship Between Weather and Tourism in China” (Supervisor: Prof. Julan DU)
  5. Lap Tin CHEUNG, Tsz Chiu CHENG and Yuk Hang WONG won the Excellent Undergraduate Paper Award (first prize in the Junior Division) for their project, “On Cross-Country Growth Performance After the Global Financial Crisis” (Supervisor: Dr Priscilla LEUNG)
  6. Ruiwen CHEN, Tianci LI, Zhuoyu TAO and Shuoxun ZHANG won the Excellent Undergraduate Paper Award (first runner-up in the Junior Division) for their project, “Beauty in Distance: How Distance Affects Housing Prices around Foreign-owned Private Hospitals in Shanghai” (Supervisor: Prof. Yifan ZHANG)
  7. Quinn Tiffany CHEN, Enkhjin GANTULGA and Louis COHEN won the Excellent Undergraduate Paper Award (second runner-up in the Junior Division) for their project, “Personal Socio Demographic Characteristics: How they affect Adoption of Cryptocurrency in Indonesia” (Supervisor: Dr Vinci CHOW)

 

As a token of appreciation, our Department will present a certificate and an e-gift card to the awardees. Once again, congratulations to all the awardees, and special thanks to the kind support of our faculty members for reviewing the papers.
