[30] 36 units of elective courses in Economics at 3000 or above level*. Major students are allowed to take courses from our graduate programme subject to the consent of course instructor. The units and grades earned are counted towards the Major elective requirement.

Among these [30] 36 units of elective courses, students may choose 1) not to specialize in any concentration area, or 2) specialize in a maximum of two concentration areas, but the courses taken in the two areas should not be double counted. Students have to take at least [15] 18 units in each area. Besides the subjects listed below, the Department may approve the inclusion of relevant special topics courses or graduate courses.
In June of the year preceding their year of planned graduation, all students have to declare if they plan to specialize in concentration area(s) or not. For those who plan to specialize, they have to declare their intended concentration area(s). At the time of declaration, students should have passed at least one course in the list of required courses and one course in the list of elective courses in each concentration area. The intended concentration area(s) will be indicated on the transcript in the year of planned graduation.

To be included in the Major GPA. Units counted towards the fulfilment of the Economics Major Programme requirements shall not be counted towards the fulfilment of the Minor Programmes in Mathematics or Statistics, and vice versa. Economics Majors minoring in MAT or STA are required to declare which MAT or STA courses will be counted towards requirements of the Major Programme at their final term of attendance. Economics Majors not minoring in MAT or STA but have passed such courses are also allowed to choose to declare up to a maximum of [3] 6 units, if they have fulfilled their [9] 12 units of ECO elective courses.
 
Double Minors

A. Applicable to students admitted in 2006-07 and thereafter

A minimum of 62 units, including 32 units from required courses listed in (i) above and 30 units from the elective courses listed in (ii).

B. Applicable to students admitted in 2005-06

A minimum of 61 units, including 31 units from required courses listed in (i) above and 30 units from the elective courses listed in (ii).

 
Course Exemption
A. Applicable to students admitted in 2006-07 and thereafter
  1. Economics Majors who have obtained a grade "E" or above in "Principles of Accounts" in the HKALE or equivalent may choose to apply for exemption of ECO1131. The Major unit requirement will be reduced by 3 units.
  2. Economics Majors who have obtained a grade "E" or above in "Pure Mathematics" in the HKALE or equivalent may choose to apply for exemption of ECO1101. The Major unit requirement will be reduced by 2 units.

B. Applicable to students admitted in 2005-06

Economics Majors who have obtained a grade "E" or above in Principles of Accounts" in the HKALE may choose to apply for exemption of ECO1131. However, students are required to make up the three units by taking a course at 3000 or above level offered by the Department to fulfil the Major requirement.
